Our Vision

The Young Israel of Woodmere is one of the flagship Modern Orthodox Shuls in North America, serving a vibrant membership of more than 1,200 families and impacting the lives of thousands of men, women, and children throughout the Five Towns and surrounding communities. For generations, YIW has stood at the forefront of communal leadership, providing a spiritual home rooted in Torah, tefillah, chesed, and meaningful engagement.

YIW is a kehillah of remarkable scale and impact. Each year, thousands participate in minyanim across multiple daily and Shabbos minyanim. Hundreds of shiurim and learning opportunities are offered for men and women of all backgrounds and levels, while innovative programming and pioneering initiatives continue to strengthen Jewish life throughout the community. More than simply providing Minyanim, YIW seeks to create meaningful opportunities for spiritual growth, personal connection, and communal engagement.

Through innovative and pioneering programming, YIW continues to offer opportunities for growth and connection at every stage of life and in every facet of Jewish living. From youth programming and teen initiatives to young family engagement, adult education, senior programming, chesed projects, Israel advocacy, social engagement, and community-wide events, YIW serves every generation of our community. Whether a child attending a youth program, a teenager participating in a high school minyan, a young family building roots in the community, or retirees seeking meaningful learning and connection, YIW strives to ensure that every member of the community has a place to belong, grow, and contribute.

YIW has also distinguished itself through pioneering community initiatives that address the evolving needs of modern Jewish life. Through comprehensive chesed and bereavement support, Israel advocacy efforts, mental health awareness programming, career networking opportunities, and responsive communal initiatives, YIW has consistently demonstrated its commitment to serving not only the spiritual needs of the community but its practical and emotional needs as well.

Young Israel of Woodmere is more than a Shul. It is a makom tefillah, a makom Torah, and a center of vibrant Jewish communal life that helps shape the future of Klal Yisrael.

This is not just about building another shul. It is about creating a home for the entire Five Towns community—a place that serves every stage of Jewish life. A place where children play on the playground, families gather for programs and celebrations, young couples begin their lives together, and future generations celebrate their weddings. A place that strengthens our sense of community and makes Shabbos feel like Shabbos.

For decades, Young Israel of Woodmere has invested in the spiritual growth and vibrancy of our community. Through daily shiurim, renowned guest speakers, dynamic programming, meaningful chesed initiatives, youth activities, and a steadfast commitment to Torah and tefillah, YIW has continually expanded its impact beyond the walls of its physical building. As our community has grown, so too has our responsibility to meet its evolving needs.

The Woodmere Club property presents an extraordinary opportunity for YIW to expand its footprint and fulfill that responsibility in a transformative way. This is not merely the acquisition of real estate; it is the creation of a communal destination that will enhance the quality of Jewish life throughout the Five Towns, Woodsburgh, and the surrounding communities.

The impact of this project will extend far beyond the membership of Young Israel of Woodmere. Residents of Woodsburgh and neighboring communities will benefit from expanded recreational opportunities, educational programming, family activities, communal gathering spaces, and facilities designed to bring people together. By creating a true community campus, this initiative has the potential to become a regional resource that strengthens the fabric of Jewish life throughout the area.

Young families have already chosen to make their homes in Woodmere, Woodsburgh, Hewlett, Cedarhurst, and the surrounding communities. What is often missing is the communal infrastructure that helps ensure they remain here for generations to come. A community campus can provide recreational space, playgrounds, a community swimming pool, family programming, educational opportunities, gathering places, and facilities that bring people together in ways that do not currently exist. These amenities will create opportunities for healthy recreation, social interaction, and meaningful community engagement for individuals and families of all ages.

Just as importantly, this project offers an opportunity to address one of the greatest challenges facing young families today: the rising cost of celebrating life’s most meaningful milestones. Every family should be able to celebrate a bar mitzvah, wedding, sheva brachos, or other simcha with dignity and joy without being burdened by excessive costs. By creating a community-based venue, YIW hopes to provide affordable options for simchas, allowing families to celebrate these cherished occasions within a warm Jewish environment at a cost that is accessible to more members of our community.

The vision extends beyond events and facilities. It is about creating a place where community members of all ages can gather, connect, learn, celebrate, and grow. It is about creating a destination where families can spend meaningful time together, where children can enjoy recreational activities in a safe Jewish environment, and where community members can build lasting relationships through shared experiences. From educational programming and Torah learning to recreational amenities such as the swimming pool and outdoor spaces, the campus will enrich Jewish life every day of the year.

The generation before us built one of the most vibrant and successful Modern Orthodox communities in America. They did so because they understood that lasting communities are built through vision, sacrifice, and investment in infrastructure that would serve generations they would never meet.

Our parents and grandparents built the shuls, schools, and institutions that define this community. We now have the opportunity—and the responsibility—to build the communal infrastructure that will define its next chapter.

Young Israel of Woodmere has always sought to identify the needs of the community and respond with leadership, vision, and action. Whether through Torah learning, youth engagement, chesed initiatives, communal programming, or spiritual guidance, YIW has consistently been at the forefront of strengthening Jewish life in the Five Towns. This project is a natural extension of that mission.

Now it is our turn.

This opportunity is about more than a property. It is about legacy. It is about ensuring that the next generation inherits a community that is even stronger, more connected, and more vibrant than the one we inherited.

The Woodmere Club is not simply a purchase. It is an investment in the future of Five Towns Jewry—a future where our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will continue to call this community home; where families can celebrate together, learn together, and grow together; and where the values that have made this community so special continue to flourish for generations to come.

If previous generations built the foundation, this is our opportunity to build the future.
